Description

Osmo oil hit the British market around 15 years ago and since then it seems to have taken over!! It is everywhere!! In this review I’m going to talk about the Osmo products I’m most familiar with and give you my honest opinion based on my experience as a professional decorator. As well as giving you my Osmo oil review, I want to talk about the best place to buy Osmo oil. I hope you find it useful.

A. In short, 'No'. Oiled and waxed finishes on floors are 'Micro-porous' which means that although the wood is protected, it can still breath as it is not completely sealed as it would be with a varnish. We bought enough reclaimed pine floorboards to cover the bottom floor of our (open plan) house. When choosing a product to seal it, we were recommended Osmo hardwax oil by the supplier. Resistant to wine, beer, cola, tea, fruit juice, milk and water (In accordance to DIN 68861-1A – no water spots) My first recommendation will be to take a look at the Manns Classic Pine Stain and the reason for this is versatility. This is a water based stain, it will soak into the woods surface and colour it, there is a wide range of colour options and you are able to intermix these colours to create new ones. You also have the benefit of sample sizes, so you are able to select a few and try some small test areas on your wood. And this will be vital as the wood type, age and condition will all impact on the colour result that will be achieved. If you do get into mixing the colours, then be sure to record ratios and measure exactly so that future larger mixes will be the same. Drying time on the Osmo Polyx Oil Raw is 24 hours, and it dries to a lovely natural matt finish [rub the board]. Once dried you need to lightly sand with a finishing pad – this helps the second coat soak in and gives you better finish all round. The end is in sight! Now apply the second coat as you did the first and remove all excess and you’re done! For Cork surfaces, due to their high absorbency please ensure that the wood finish is applied thinly. Longer drying times are to be taken into consideration (at least 24 hours). Osmo Polyx-Oils are developed from natural oils and waxes to provide the most hardwearing and durable protection for wooden flooring and furniture. Oils enhance the natural tone of wood. Applying the product too generously and with insufficient ventilation will lead to delays in drying. Regular Cleaning: Dust mopping using the green Dust-Mop from the Osmo Mop Cleaning Kit for Floors. Damp mopping using diluted Osmo Wash and Care and the Micro-Mop plush from the Osmo Mop Cleaning Kit for Floors. Alternatively use the convenient Osmo Spray-Mop

A trial application of Osmo Polyx Oil Raw is recommended on a small section of the substrate before commencing. When applying Polyx®-Oil Tints 3040 White, also use Polyx®-Oil Tints 3040 White as the top coat to prevent yellowing. New untreated wood in its original form has a light, pale character from its natural 'raw' appearance. Sanded wood also has this effect. Osmo Polyx Oil Raw is designed to retain this appearance by using a small amount of white pigments to counteract the darker 'damp-look' that develops after application of a clear oil or varnish finish. Osmo Polyx Oil Raw 3044. This will lessen the wet look on lighter timbers such as Oak or Pine. Raw gets mixed results on hardwoods especially darker hardwoods as it contains white pigment. If you are looking to change the colour of your wood then you can go across to theThe last thing to consider is sheen! Sheen refers to the amount of light the finish reflects from the surface. Contrary to popular belief this does not have any influence over durability. First Coat: Apply one thin coat with an Osmo Floor Brush or Osmo Floor Roller. Our rollers have a 4.5mm nap. Osmo Polyx Oil Raw is an interior hard wax wood oil which is designed to retain the natural raw appearance of lighter coloured timbers. Use as a base coat for wooden floors and use Osmo Polyx Oil Original as a top coat for the ultimate colour finish In addition to its practical benefits, Polyx-Oil Effect is also easy to apply and brings out the natural beauty of the wood. Simply clean and sand the surface, apply the oil using a cloth or roller, and allow it to dry. The result is a beautiful, natural finish that will last for years to come.

Matt – Gives you a flat matt look and feel Semi Matt – A slight sheen added to the wood for those who don’t want dead matt Satin – The halfway house between matt and gloss Gloss – Gives the light a good surface to reflect off Osmo Polyx Oil Tints which come in a range of colours. The whole Polyx Oil range comes in handy 5ml sachets to do your test areas before purchasing a bigger tin. In short, no. Varnish is a coating type product that coats the wood with a plastic shell or skin. Wood oils work by penetrating into the wood but can’t with a varnish covering the wood grain. All varnish coatings need to be fully removed by sanding before an oil can be applied. Wood first treated with Osmo Wood Protector 4006 may appear a little more dark. Always trial apply Osmo Polyx®-Oil 3044 Raw over the Wood Protector to ensure the final appearance meets with expectations.Other household cleaning products such as vanish, bleach, baking soda etc. are likely to cause severe discolouration or staining. Cork tiles are best treated before fitting to avoid overlapping treatment of edges which would lead to prolonged drying times. A cork floor treated with Osmo Polyx-Oil will get a robust, elastic and wear-resistant surface which will harden further over 2-3 weeks. Due to the extreme absorption power of this highly elastic, natural, material we recommend the following procedure: Please Note: All other oils in the Osmo range will give a darker look than Osmo Raw. This is what sets it apart, as it really gives that natural, untreated look. Please be advised that 125ml tins are printed in German only. Some woods are highly porous and require an especially thin application, as a result the drying time can be increased.

LIMITED OFFER: Free Osmo Soft Tip Brush 25mm when purchasing a 750ml size tin of Osmo Raw, or a half price Osmo Floor Brush 400mm when purchasing 2.5ll. Simply add the products to your basket to qualify, the relevant discount will be automatically applied. What’s the deal with clear? A clear product suggests it doesn’t change the colour of the wood, but it actually does. Clear Polyx Oil will bring out the natural tone and patina of the wood, enhancing the grain giving it will appear darker and what we call the “wet look”. One of the key benefits of Polyx-Oil Effect is its durability. It is scratch and scuff resistant, making it perfect for high traffic areas in your home. It is also water and dirt repellent, making it easy to clean and maintain. So when you are happy with your test areas and ready to apply. Start by giving the tin a good stir before and periodically during application to prevent inconsistencies in the finish. Then it’s as simple as loading the brush dabbing off any excess and applying thinly, working with the grain and in manageable areas. Once applied remove any excess with a microfibre cloth and leave to dry.Oils need to penetrate the surface of the wood, once the wood is saturated and will not accept any more, excess oil drys on the surface and this is what marks easily. It is not only the type of wood that can effect this, also the method of application. Rollers application, for example, will apply more per area than cloth application, and so may not be ideal for hardwoods.
